The A-Z of Leadership: Focus
"Ask yourself if what you’re doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow" - unknown
What one trait is behind the success of all people that have performed massively better than the average person?
When asked what the most important factor for their success was, Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, two of the world’s wealthiest and most influential people, both attributed their success to one factor: “FOCUS.”
Focus always precedes success.
Success is not possible without a clear focus on what matters most. And as leaders we constantly need to remind ourselves this vital truth.
Neuroscience confirms this:
"Success as a leader requires, first and foremost, creating just a few clear priorities and gathering the courage to eliminate or outsource less important tasks and goals. Executives must also reset their expectations for what constitutes a viable workload, basing them on a realistic understanding of what their brains can handle. It’s less than what most of us try to accomplish" from 'Your Brain at Work by Adam Waytz & Malia Mason'
We need to learn to work smarter, not harder, if we're going to fulfil our potential.
